I mean, the Europeans managed to conquer Africa and it is territoriality massive. And China at that time was much richer than Africa, it could definitely support a larger troop presence. But in all likelihood, China would be made into a string on protectorates not direct colonies.

@marpagapal3312 I disagree. I know the Portuguese were doing some colonizing, but that was less colonizing in the modern sense and more simply conquest. Even then they couldn't take down the larger states. The successive Zimbabwean kingdoms defeated them when they tried to penetrate, same with Kongo and the Maravi and this was even with the Half-African Portuguese populations in Angola and Mozambique. So I would have to agree with the guy that said that rapid fire weapons were the key to colonization of Africa. Of course other factors played important roles but as the inventor of the Maxim gun said, "we have the Maxim gun, they don't".

There was also a failed Portuguese expedition against Mwenemutapa when their King converted to then rejected Christianity, that on ended mainly due to disease but there was one before that that Mwenemutapa used the bullhorn formation that Zulu are famous for to crush the Portuguese army sent against them.
