It wouldn't surprise me if that happened. I'm careful with predictions, because "predictions are hard, especially about the future" as Yogi Berra remarked, but, having said that, the implosion of Empires has often happened vèry unexpected, and mind-numbingly fast.

@MrZenGuitarist Indeed. They'd die either way, so giving-up/surrendering would seem like taking at least a chance. However, the footage of drones dropping ordnance on Russians, huddled in foxholes, suffering from hypothermia it seems, hardly even moving when they see/hear a drone, makes me feel that they've already given-up, and lack even the energy to try and surrender. A very sad way to 'go'.

Indeed. It starts with a moist foot, then toes freeze, then the foot turns black. And doing exhausting things like running from shelling or drones makes one sweat. Insufficient clothing makes the sweat freeze, and hypothermia can no longer be prevented. Russians also have a booze-problem. What I learnt in the (admittedly meagre) low temperature training, was that booze makes you feel warm, but actually makes your body cool down even further, but you don't notice, or notice too late that you're cold. Ukraine is also a fair bit of relatively flat agricultural lands. If the wind picks-up, and You're already cold due to crappy gear, it gets even worse. So there's that.

It's a start. 300km range ATACMS would be better. But, apparently Biden, Scholtz and Macron are still shaking in their Italian design shoes in fear of the "Mighty Russian Wrath". What can one do...

As I understand it, Putin doesn't 'do' social media, or internet. He has people for that. Sounds ridiculous, I know, but I really believe that Putin's General Staff doesn't have the balls to àctually give him the state of things, out of fear of 'defenestration' or 'disappearing'. Putin removed ànyone with even an ounce of knowledge and smarts. He is thàt paranoid. Like all dictators, he's lost the plot and went full-on paranoid loon, and is now only surrounded by 'yes-men' he deems less of a risk.

I feel something is cooking, and Ukraine is just biding its' time until the ground freezes. Mud-season is useless for actually advancing ànything. I wouldn't put it past Ukraine that they're currently saving the big hitters, and are only using the minimal amount of ordnance to keep the Wagner group busy around Bakhmut, while preparing for a big kablooie when they can finally roll into the Donbass without having to use the roads (because roads are the only routes marginally passable and thusly dangerous. (..)Ukraine's biggest problem in winter, will be that HIMARs are not tracked vehicles(..) I believe strongly that Ukraine is waiting for the ground to freeze. Currently it's still "mud-Season" in large parts of Ukraine. The worst ground condition to fight on. Goes for both sides. Russian T72's get stuck in mud just as well as Ukrainian T72's. "Potato, Pohtahto". :P

Heh. That actually makes sense. While in the service I usually stayed away from those brave, certified loons that went for the 'Explosives expert' courses.. You never knew if they didn't have a fuze of a recently disarmed mine on them "just to see what it would do' later.. 😋 Nah. kidding. We had the absolute deepest respect for those guys. They gave 'cool heads' a whole new depth. (Still thought they were nuts, though... :P)

There will still be "A Russia" but no more "Russian Federation" Many an involuntary annexed Country/Republic in the RF has now seen what a shitshow the 'Mighty Russian Army' actually is, and I'd almost wager a bet that many separatists smell a chance now Ukraine has thinned-out the orcs' capabilities. Added to that, China is already looking at Russian Manchuria (A painful reminder of post WW2 treason afa China is concerned), and pieces of Siberia. It wouldn't surprise me if Xi would pull a 'knife in the back' If You get my drift... Not immediately. But, Ìf Russia actually loses ALL of the annexed territory in Ukraine, all hell will break loose in its own backyard.

Depends on the type. Old fashioned ordnance still explodes on impact, spreading shrapnel. What I call 'buckshot grenades' actually explode in the air, yes. The latest type of HIMARS missiles do that. The moment they were deployed, You could sée the numbers of KIA orcs jump. Tungsten buckshot spares no-one and nothing. But I guess Ukraine had a limited supply of them, and are now back to the high-explosive kind that works just fine, but the yield against soft targets is lower. Still blows-up supply trucks, fuel- and ammo dumps and grounded planes pretty nicely.. :P

Orcs don't 'wave the white flag" because behind them are mercenaries specifically tasked with shooting them in the back, if any 'white flag waving' is to occur. Officers also have direct orders to execute any soldier that talks about 'surrendering', on the spot. Sounds bizarre, but is actually a standard tactic in the Russian army. "The executions will not stop, until morale improves" seems to be the mantra here.

It looks like that is what Ukes are doing around Bakhmut, HOW many times we heard that "Bakhmut is about to fall" ? Every 3 weeks? You'd cal it a 'running gag' if it weren't so horrible of a slaughter fest every time.. TheWagner orcs advanced.. Ukes were gone, orcs advanced for a bit.. and suddenly the still intact artillery of the Ukes started pounding the Wagner orcs, that were forced back again, and again, while losing men in no uncertain manner. Ukes are getting pretty good at that 'Meat Grinder Tactics" it seems. Retreat a tiny bit, lure them in, come back and pound them. Maybe Bakhmut will be given-up by the Ukrainians.. The orcs celebrate.. and then discover they have no supply lines left because the Ukes Himarsed everything on the russian side behind Bakhmut.. Who knows?
