True, but after watching a lot of these, I realize that the most important thing is that the operator does their job as quickly and correctly as possible. They have to remain calm and not let their emotions or sympathy shake them or affect their work. It takes a special person to do this type of job.

Kodakicy If a falling acorn triggers you to start firing at a handcuffed suspect, that shows he's not in right headspace to accurately assess active situations. Officers need to be very aware and reevaluate situations, acting this irrationally over random noises means he's not fit for the job. What's next a bird poops on him and he starts blasting another suspect?

@Piehlerk It is his fault since you can't overreact like this to something as benign as a falling acorn with deadly force. It shows he's not fit for the job which is probably why he resigned. However, if he genuinely did think it was a gunshot, that's probably how he avoided criminal charges.

I'm just relieved the soup wasn't that hot. I've seen a case of a man spilled a pot of hot soup on his face, and completely disfigured it. He has no nose, no lips. This is no joke, she should go to jail for a long time.

It's definitely bad parenting to leave your child alone in the car. The parents were very lucky that the criminal was only looking to steal the car and not the child. Otherwise, they might have never seen their child again.

@onceupongeorgia he was a multiple time felon already. The thing is criminals can kill people too believe it or not. That's the reality of self-defense. I watched the footage, he subdued the officers. You can't operate on the notion that the perp will in good faith not act further. Deadly force was justified.

@adamslay1813 "technically", meanwhile the actual definition of murder: murder requires premeditation and a malicious intent to kill. Even intentionally killing someone in the heat of the moment is technically considered voluntary manslaughter. And that's the correct use of technical.

@BovineIntervention People feel bad for the 110 years. That just doesn't make any sense, like people have said serial killers, pedos, rapists get way less. That was the reason for the outrage. Fair punishment is an important concept.

They obviously went through a whole long trial and ended up with a conviction. Of course, a three minute news story isn't going to prove anything. It's just reporting the result of the trial.

Immediately started lying about the situation, physically getting in the way of an active arrest leading to the escalation. And lied to the media afterwards. I feel bad for the 911 caller that got harassed for doing the right thing.

You're giving that family too much credit. They enabled disgusting behavior then lied about it to the public. They didn't care about the people he was assaulting and tried to go after the 911 caller who was the only person who did the right thing. They weren't blinded, they're just terrible people honestly.

@xolovenicole In the body cam footage, the family was actively belligerent and escalated by physically trying to stop the cops from arresting him. What a mess. That family seems horrible tbh defending that behavior until it got to this point. Can't give them the benefit of the doubt, they stated he was a gentle soul and peaceful to the media, but he actually was a multiple time violent felon. They tried to gaslight the public and brought a media storm on that poor 911 caller who was the only person that did the right thing.

@Red-yd3sc You act like 10 years is nothing. You can say coward all you want, but this is pretty clear case of involuntary manslaughter which is why that sentence is given. Longer sentence usually means murder which requires premeditation and malicious intent to kill to be classified as such.

The median does not look flat. It would've been a disaster, especially if it veered off and went into oncoming traffic. It doesn't prevent the plane from leaking and going up in flames. There's no right answer in these situations, but I think the pilots took the path that had the least likelihood or collateral damage going to the shoulder like that.

@mattcompton8893 Never become a lawyer please. Knowing your actions will kill people is not what malicious aforethought means, that's just aforethought. Malicious means you actually wanted to kill those people and that was the goal of your action. Malicious intent to kill. Manslaughter is not accidental death. It is any cupable killing that does not meet the requirements of murder. There is even voluntary manslaughter where you intentionally kill someone, often termed "“heat of passion” killings where aforethought cannot be established even if malice can. And that is still not murder.
