@janbernad4729 Making things useful to someone one out of ten days isn't a very accurate description of how science and scientific work benefits people. It's more like making a useful thing once or twice in a lifetime that will be useful for millions of people in the future. And the only reason why we have modern medicine for Doctors (who themselves also conduct scientific research and have acted as a scientist at some point in their schooling), or advanced materials for Engineers, and electronic products for workers, is because of scientists. It's a very simpleton way of thinking that others are providing for him.

Honestly, it's probably easier to find useful applications for this compared to a lot of areas of science. And given enough time, humans usually find many applications for even the most unassuming discoveries. Understanding crystal formation seems rather useful to me, and that's not even taking into account the artistic side of things.
