Right now I'm drinking an oat milk latte. One of the nice things about oat milk is that it really does a pretty decent job of replacing milk in foamed milk beverages. Although it does have a slight taste to it that doesn't match, with an appropriate number of shots of espresso that's not much of an issue.

@lgsazar9715 Lactose intolerance is basically an enzyme issue. Some people produce it naturally, most people don't. If people want to eat milk products, then you're basic options are to get lactose removed products, add lactase via supplement, eat yogurts that have the relevant bacteria and enzymes or just tolerate the issues that come of lactose intolerance. Personally, I'm making up a batch of live culture yogurt that usually helps keep the lactose intolerance in check. But, from what I can tell, if you want the bacteria to live long term, they need to be ones that can live in an anaerobic environment.

@lgsazar9715 It is and the main reason why we do it is that it was one of the few options for vitamin D when our species started living far away from the sunny weather of the equator. It's also why the bulk of the people who can properly handle milk products come from the far north.

@testing_oscar There's a lot of reasons for that, even if you can digest it, dairy products are a major issue for the environment and the milk itself does have other health impacts both good and bad beyond lactose intolerance.

@dfcx1 Yes, and it's also relatively easy to foam if you're looking for an alternative that can be used to make decent foamed coffee drinks. The one that I"m drinking has been sitting here for a while and it's still got foam, even at the bottom. It's not quite as nice as if I used milk, but it's close enough that I don't have to think about what it's doing to my digestive track.

@floralstripes8001 One of the nice things about most nut milks is that you can make them yourself at home if you've got the nuts and a bit of patience.

That kind of thing has been an issue for many decades, at least the schools no longer force the kids to eat all the food that was in the lunch like they used to. I'd definitely recommend any parents that have kids being forced to buy the milk consider seeking legal action against the schools that are doing that because food allergies are allergies and there is a legal obligation of the schools to provide a safe learning environment for all the students, even those with food based medical issues.
