@dfcx1 They also made a significant portion of young people hearing impaired because they didn't ever fit right and you had to crank up the volume if you wanted to hear what was being played.

IMHO, somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 to $100 is where you get the best sound quality for the money. Above that there isn't really much to be gained, and below that the quality is going to vary a lot.

@cabbage-soup Skullcandy makes some. They're decent enough quality, not anywhere near as good as what you'd get for the same price if you don't need the bluetooth or are willing to get an over the ear style, but they're decent enough for the money.

The great thing about those cheap earbuds is that they signaled to everybody around them that they're probably hearing impaired and you can probably talk about them without them being able to hear what you're saying.

Honestly, I bought a sub $100 pair of Sennheiser over the ear headphones years ago and they were good enough that I had to reencode most of my MP3s to something a bit better. I forget exactly how much they cost, but I think it was closer to $100 than $50. I think there's plenty of other companies that can do the same thing without charging a massive amount of money, especially since over the ear headphones have pretty much as much space as you need for good drivers and some extra circuitry. But, beyond that, it had some other nice features like the ability to replace the cable by just unplugging the one that came with it and plugging in the replacement and the ear cups were also similarly easy to replace.
