@1940limited Not really, but the ultrarich will do all sorts of dumb things if it's a rare thing to do. Seeing videos of one of the owners, they put way too much faith in the hull, and not enough into communication or some fail-safe.

@disposabull Both funny and probably a completely accurate representation of how this happened.

@indian_crocodile Yes, any Titanic related misadventure would require them to have continued the descent knowing that they weren't in contact with the surface. It's a bunch of billionaires, so maybe, but probably not. More likely the communications gear failed and whatever equipment was involved with bringing it to the surface automatically also failed. Or, the whole thing did indeed implode and the tapping is just in the imagination of the people looking.

@Seronu Yep, for those of us that aren't involved in the actual rescue process, thoughts and prayers are the most we can offer. In all likelihood, it's already too late. After locating it, they'd probably have to bring it back to the surface and then get them out of there without inducing decompression sickness, and that is an extremely tall order.

@liammorris1018 There is, there's a safety release that's supposed to drop enough ballast for the sub to rise to the surface. It's unclear whether that failed or if something else happened. But, they put a ton of faith in the hull and the safety release mechanism to bring them to the surface where they could be recovered if something happened. It's still unclear what exactly happened and until they either recover the sub, or find a debris field, that answer won't be knowable.
