Why should white people apologize for slavery? Slavery ended 115 years before I was born. There were literally no slaves still alive when I was a child and few people were still alive that had even met any of those slaves. What's more, I have no ancestors that were involved in the slave trade on any side. Please take your Nazi blood debt bullshit and get the hell out of here. This is a false equivalence. He wouldn't be asked to apologize if this was somebody elses joke that somebody else had given. This was a joke that he himself made and as such, yes he does need to apologize if he doesn't want the consequences of not apologizing.

He wouldn't have lost his job if he'd just apologized immediately, or at least linked back to other apologies if he didn't want to apologize again. He didn't lose the job because of the jokes, he lost it because of how he handled the situation. Hollywood isn't in a position where things like this are going to be tolerated right now. And in terms of homophobic jokes, perhaps never again. Simply apologizing like he was asked to do would have been reasonable, so would doing so during the show. He's clearly sorry that he told those jokes, but that doesn't get him off the hook for how he chose to handle the current controversy.

I'm fine with that part of the joke. Yes, they really should have included it, but IMHO that part of the joke is more obviously messed up and as such cutting it probably doesn't have as much of an effect as it might seem. Personally, I think he should have been allowed to host and to apologize on the air. Not a long speech or anything, but just a short one would be more than sufficient. He seems to have learned better and as such, I think he deserves to be allowed to demonstrate it.

No, that's not even remotely true. Comedians need to get closer to the line than other people do and there's some benefit to it. But, the fact that somebody is a comedian does not get people off the hook. Just look at Michael Richards after that n-word tirade, by your reasoning, that would have been fine because he's a comedian. The fact of the matter is that comedians will overreach at times, but that doesn't make what they said acceptable, it means that they need to apologize in a timely fashion.

@sunshineflorida7366 Have you ever seen a gay comic? They make more gay jokes than anybody else, but the key is that the jokes are funny and they know what the consequences are for the community when homophobes like you are permitted to spread these sorts of ideas. The problem isn't just that he made the jokes, it's people like you that seem to have no idea what the repercussions have been.
