If you think that, you're a great fool. Pelosi isn't a great Speaker, she hasn't been able to deliver on the priorities that the Democrats claim to support and even when they did have both houses and the White House they still didn't get anything done. And under her leadership, the Democrats lost over a thousand seats across the country in the more important state races. She's a massive fundraising opportunity for Republicans as even most of the Democratic voters hate her guts. More recently, she got rolled on the Cares Act, a great Speaker would have kept it held up in the House with procedural issues until they were able to get more out of it. Unlimited PPP money for small businesses that qualified through the end of the pandemic. Hazard pay for essential workers, not giving $5tn to the largest corporations without accountability. All of those could been included in the Cares Act had she decided to actually do her freaking job as Speaker. The GOP desperately wanted that money for the donors, and her failure to substantively deal with any of that is on her.

Not really, even with the Cares Act negotiations which should have been an easy win for things like hazard pay for essential workers and $600 a week for the unemployed through the end of the pandemic, she couldn't get that when she had leverage that she refused to use.

I assume his definition of "great Speaker" Is one that's able to get the post back after having been a miserable failure the previous time. In that case, I can see his point. But, if actually getting things done that benefit the voters is part of it, then she's a miserable failure as Speaker.

@Li pov Yaj But, the reality is that she was useless before McConnel was leader in the Senate. And even in cases where she did have massive leverage over him, for example with the donors demanding action on the Cares Act, she wasn't able to extract or even demand anything of him and the Senate Republicans. She should have been able to get unemployment extended to the end of the pandemic, uncapped spending on PPP loans, hazard pay for essential workers and/or real oversight on the money that Mnuchin was handing out, but not only did she not get any of those things, she didn't even try. Failing to try is hardly something that you can blame on McConnell, even if he was successful in preventing it, at least then that would be something good for campaign ads.

It was a bad debate. Michael wouldn't shut up and let Cenk give his counter examples and really had no leg to stand on. I'm not sure how you can be a great Speaker when you're not delivering on much of anything that the members of your party or district want.
