Indeed, America isn't perfect, but there's never been a period in our entire history where we were as bad as the Nazis. The closest we came to that was when we were clearing the lands of the indigenous tribes and even that was not even remotely close to what the Nazis were doing. It's beyond regrettable that the infectious diseases that the settlers brought to the New World eradicated countless natives even before the settlers saw them, but really, the comparison is rather silly.

The national anthem had a racist third verse and even there it's a bit questionable as to whether the verse was racist or was said by a racist. Nobody sings it and few people are even aware that it was ever a part of the song.

LOL, you do realize that the Democrats chased those racists out of the party and they joined the GOP, right?

If it were about the racism of the national anthem, why was he standing for it previously? Bottom line here is that the verse TYT refer to is no longer sung and might as well not be in the anthem at all. It's important historically as a matter of context, but the fact that most people are completely unaware that it was ever in there to begin with significantly undermines the notion that it's racist. At this point, it's pretty clear that the black community is less interested in progress and more interested in obsessing over a bygone era and blaming whitey for all their problems. It's demonstrably false that black people can't succeed on their own terms without selling out, foreign born black people do it all the time.

WeGotTehPie You mean other than the GOP that's continually running on things like keeping bathrooms separate but equal and doing whatever they need to do to prevent minorities from voting. And racist or not, he did more for the various minority communities than just about anybody in American history.

Nearly all of them do. There might be a handful of recently established countries that don't, but the reality is that people's morals were rather questionable in the past. I think one of the reasons why the US gets so much flack is that we have always aspired to more. We've regularly failed to live up to our own standards, but on the whole we aspire to have all these things dealt with and on the whole we're moving that direction. It's just that it's fits and starts and too slow, but we'll get there eventually. Just look at the progress that's been made over the last 50 years.
