That's a lie. You don't have a PhD in anything relevant if you're claiming that the current climate change is similar to anything that's come before. As far as consensus goes, the verdict is in, humans are the primary cause of climate change this time around. We don't yet know how bad it's going to be, but we're already seeing the largest known die off of species in the history of the world. By the time deniers like you are on board, there might not be much left to save. had we taken this seriously decades ago, we wouldn't need to be taking a lot of these steps because the problem would have been contained.

Rawbeard, that's a load of garbage. Without our contributions to climate change the change would be rather subtle and over the course of many centuries. There wouldn't be need for anything extreme because we'd have decades to plan for it. Changes over such a short period of this magnitude are unprecedented. Between the ice core samples from Antarctica and the various tree rings, we have a pretty comprehensive view of what the atmosphere was composed of for many thousands of years. We know that there hasn't been this level of change in recorded history and we know that we're the cause of it. Being a denier just means that the changes we'll have to make will be more expensive and possibly impossible if we allow it to go on much longer. At some point, we'll hit a tipping point and we might not get a specific warning about where it lies.

I see somebody doesn't like the science and as a result chooses to pretend like it doesn't exist. Of course, I personally wouldn't notice. I live with weather which varies day to day and climate change is something that's only meaningful over longer periods of time. Just because you choose to be ignorant of the distinction, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Quit screwing things up for the rest of us. Why should we have to pay the consequences because people like you are too ignorant and self-centered to actually do something while something can be done?

Do a better job of expressing yourself if you don't want to be lumped in with deniers. And it's not just CO2, there's other ones as well that are even worse.

Where's your grant money coming from? Also, since when does a degree in physical chemistry qualify somebody to comment on climate change? The interactions involved with that are several orders of magnitude harder to investigate than anything you're doing in the lab. Hence the "confusion" about climate change. There's no confusion that certain chemicals cause heat to be trapped in the atmosphere and there's no question about where most of them are coming for. There's also no question that the atmosphere is changing at a greater rate than previously. The only questions here are about how bad it's going to be. We don't yet know that, and expecting to know that completely when we know it's going to be bad just means that the eventual solution will be significantly more draconian than it needs to be if we fix it now. It also means that a ton of species will have died off that we can't have back. Hopefully none of those plants cure important things like cancer.

People will suffer the consequences and it's already happening. The first forced evacuation for an island being swamped has already happened. Yes, we'll have options to mitigate things somewhat, but they're going to be expensive and increasingly expensive as things get further and further out of control. Had we in the US taken things seriously back in the '70s when it became obvious how problematic our dependence on oil was, we would likely already have the infrastructure to reduce fossil fuel consumption to the point where it wasn't an existential threat. And your point is also why we can't let Clinton win, she's not serious about taking on climate change and it was primarily her supporters that refused to even make the federal government consider climate change when making decisions. How effed up is that, even the Democratic platform isn't calling for her to do that if elected. And even that isn't anywhere near enough.
