  1. Yes, that's part of why it can be so intimidating. If you open up the information screen on all the keybindings, it can be rather scary. That and being set loose with an entirely blank screen with no visible menu.

  2. Honestly, I would probably have used sed and awk to do the same thing. It probably wouldn't have been quite as fast, but depending upon the length of the text and how often you're doing it, it would have been worthwhile. Plus, it wouldn't have required vim, which isn't on all machines.
