That's not terribly surprising. Despite the tactics, it's worth recognizing that most of the people involved in these military operations view themselves as freedom fighters and I can't imagine them maintaining any sort of morale if it came down to keeping children captive and tormenting them. There is a hstory of hospitality throughout the Middle East and it wouldn't surprise me if it was being extended to children that were caught up in all of this. It's also a really smart move for cynical reasons. That girl will grow up and someday get to vote and influence those around her.

Possibly, but I doubt it. Given how horribly the IDF has bombed the crap out of the area, I do think that there's reason to have some sincere gratitude for protecting the hostages from Israeli aggression long enough to be released. IN the long run, the truth will get out regardless of what that truth is. But, it wouldn't surprise me if the letter is more truth than fiction.

@craigewen7542 Look at what the Israeli forces did in response and do every time there is any effort to fight back against their oppression. Israel isn't exactly innocent in all of this.

@oliviav.3565 He doesn't agree with you, so he doesn't have objectivity? Considering the degree to which the Israelis made it hard to keep the hostages safe due to the excessive bombings, I do think that it probably isn't inappropriate for the hostages to have some appreciation for Hamas not letting the Israelis murder them during one of their war crimes. Whether that adds up to an actual expressed thank you or not is really on the person that's making the decision to show appreciation or not.

@nitrofreakmanho Yes and often times doing it with US taxpayer dollars. It's bad enough that they're doing these things, it's worse that my taxpayer dollars are going to help.

@BillAngler Same goes for the Israelis. The problem in both cases is the people running the governments. And whereas the PA is essentially already subject to legally enforced BDS, it's about time that the Israelis were also subjected to BDS until neither government has the means to wage war against the other and the people finally get the peace they deserve.

@lifethrowsyoulemons Probably not, Hamas needs the hostages for the same reason that they took them in the first place. Has it not occurred to you that perhaps they are telling the truth? At any rate, the truth, no matter what it is will emerge eventually.

Ridiculous? I don't think expressing gratitude for showing the girl a level of humanity that the Israelis don't show their hostages isn't entirely unreasonable. We will eventually find out what the truth here is, but it would surprise me if the gratitude isn't in large part appropriate.

@siroj1001 It's also worth recognizing that this isn't ISIS we're talking about here, these are mostly just Muslim freedom fighters. The fact that it also helps to undercut the credibility of the IDF right now just makes me more convinced that when the truth comes out that it will largely support the contents of this letter.

@Blksl. The Semites being antisemitic is a new one on me.

It is and that's why one party is run by war criminals and the other is run by terrorists. The only real differences are funding and recognition.

@lazvt8469 You're not implying that when Israel does it it's not genocide are you? Because in very few cases are there even court proceedings, most of the time they're released without any sort of trial.

@_filifjonkan4290 I'm inclined to believe that it's substantively true, but you are correct that the truth will come out eventually.

The fact that a bunch of war criminals have nukes ought to terrify people more than it does. And yes, without the support of the US, the Israelis would have had to sit down for a negotiated peace deal years ago and stopped stealing Palestinian land.
