Possibly, more likely, the people at the intended address had moved without leaving a forwarding address and the package itself didn't have a return address either.

I'm not surprised, although the X-Ray would show metallic objects and some other physical contaminants that might have been put in there, they wouldn't show chemical or biological agents in there. that being said as indicated by the episode, there likely wouldn't have been any chemicals or biological agents in there either if they had a way of screening for that. The most likely reason for a kid to get hurt by the candy being handed out is if it contained allergens that weren't listed on the label.

Yep, that was the case when I was a kid in the '80s. But, really, there are so many other issues that comes with things that aren't being made in a regulated facility in terms of things like allergens and food poisoning that are better reasons to just stick to the factory wrapped stuff anyways.

Theoretically, if somebody was going to do this, they'd be more likely to slip it into kid's buckets as they walked by because of that. But, really, the whole thing is so easy to figure out with modern epidemiological practices that the guilty party would be located fairly quickly.

That depends where you are. Around here the kids still trick or treat. The best place of all to trick or treat is at the local college's dorms. I did that one year and it was like the motherload, plus they had a pretty decent haunted house set up.

Yes, there's so many ways that having things that aren't produced and labeled for distribution that can go wrong. At least the wrapped stuff you can look up what's supposed to be in there to see if it's OK.

Why?There isn't much harm in having the parents inspect the candy before letting the kids eat it. Sometimes it's subject to a recall that the people giving it out might not have been aware of, and sometimes there's allergens in there that the kids may not expect to have an issue with.

You mean a "Razr in an Apple."
