Largely understates it a lot, Bernie nearly had it wrapped up before Obama got on the phone and got pretty much everybody else out of the pool.

Literally the only reason why Biden was the nominee last time was because he made a few phone calls and got nearly everybody other than Bernie and Biden to drop out last time and pledge their delegates to Biden. Whether or not he deserves that power, he has it, and if he's not endorsing Kamala it's because he either thinks she can't win or doesn't think her likelihood of success is high enough to stake his reputation to. Really, she should be made to make her case at the convention to at least earn the support of the delegates. Her being coronated without doing any of the work risks a repeat of 2016 where HRC didn't feel like she needed to do the work either and wound up losing to one of the most beatable GOP candidates in decades.

He is still the man that installed Biden as the Democratic nominee last election. And if anybody can put somebody forward that could compete with the VP for the nomination it would be him.
