@Austin.Kilgore IKR, a harness with a couple carabiner would pretty much completely eliminate that particular risk, it would just make the whole climb take a lot longer. I'm not sure that going that route is really worth it, but that would eliminate the risk.

@SonnyUploads It's completely relevant. If she'd died in her sleep while backpacking, I could totally see "she died doing what she loved" as being an accurate statement. But she slid literal hundreds of feet to her doom, not something for which that whole saying about dying doing what you love is intended to refer to.

Why not? Most people complete the hike without any sort of injury. This is one of those situations where in hindsight, I'd say she shouldn't have gone, but I'm not sure how I would have known to tell her that before she went on that hike.

@stuwest3653 IKR, that happened to that famous stairway in Hawaii, people refused to be careful and they eventually closed it because they got sick of dealing with people hurting or killing themselves on it. They eventually went so far as to remove the stairs completely as people were ignoring the closedness of the stairs.

Why? People rarely fall to their death there and there's already the means to climb it with reasonable safety.
