The company is going out of business, one way or another. Either because nobody is willing to buy tickets on a sub they've designed after such a catastrophic failure, because of new regulations or they simply get sued out of existence by the families of the deceased.

Yes, and if I understood correctly, this was the 3rd voyage. That's pretty quick to get to a catastrophic failure.

I wonder if any of the passengers would have gone if it wasn't the CEO piloting the craft.
6
@RA-el6zj Apparently yes. I would have thought the fact that Submarines have been around for over a century at this point and usually not running at such a depth with extensive maintenance and examination routines would be pretty obvious. Not to mention the various water tight doors that can be sealed if there is a breach in one section.

There already is, Biden was not lawfully nominated. He was nominated because the Democratic establishment chose to rig the election in his favor. He's not somebody that the voters want and his policies are horribly unpopular, but the party was able to rig the election in his favor by closing polling places and insisting on having elections, even when they couldn't be held safely.

@jaredholt4582 You make that sound like it's a bad thing. That's how Democracy works, if you don't have enough voters to support your cause, then you need to make a more compelling case as to why they should support you. The actual distribution of votes shouldn't matter in nationwide or statewide elections. Those smaller states get their own Representatives and Senators. And in most states, there's more than one set of policy proposals that the voters are in favor of. It's not like all of the Representatives of NY or CA just vote in lock step on every issue any more than it would be for all the TX and FL Representatives to do so. Here in WA we've had the rural counties whining about that sort of thing for decades, because they don't have the votes to elect a Senator or Governor of their liking. They regularly try to secede from the state in order to get their own Senators. But, the fact is that it would be undemocratic for them to get their say without running better GOP candidates that can effectively win the support of the people at large.

@snowblind. Perhaps they should have written the 2nd and 3rd try in ways that comply with state law, then they would have been safe.
2
Perhaps you should either get your stove fixed or learn how to cook. My electric stove works just fine. And, if an electric stove isn't good enough, there's even better technology in terms of induction stoves.

@kingofwrestling9758 Yes, but there's established designs for subs that can safely reach the wreck. It's just that they cost more money.
2
@RA-el6zj IKR, I'm not sure how this is really any different from visiting any other wreck, other than that they attempted it in a cut rate sub designed by people who didn't bother to get the designs validated or verified. People are going to be going to prison over this.

No, the dementia would still be an issues This is the man that has the nuclear launch codes and can authorize the Ukrainians to use American weapons to attack targets inside of Russia. In other words, he could still trigger WWIII. The Democrats have just decided to not invoke the 25th amendment. If Biden doesn't fit the intended use of those provisions, then I don't know who does.

There's also a bunch of people like me that will vote 3rd party because the Democrats aren't promising anything to justify the vote. Each election cycle they try to make people vote for their bad candidates because the GOP candidate is an existential threat, but rather than running the best possible candidate and letting the voters choose, they forced HRC and Biden on us. Even when they are in power, they don't even try to fight for the things they promised the voters. For better or for worse, at least the GOP does try to do the things they promise.
1
Yes, at what point are the democrats going to stop rigging their elections and let the will of the people happen?
1
You think they didn't know? It was clear 4 years ago just how much more energetic Bernie was than Biden. The party literally had to rig the primary to get Biden at the top of the ticket and he didn't bother to do anything to earn the votes of the progressives and independents. He got a little bump from the people with buyer's remorse for voting for Trump, but that's it.
1
Which is grossly unconstitutional. The point of having electors is that they can vote however they like. The only reason why they get allocated based upon votes rather than at random is that they're more likely to advocate for that candidate at the convention. It was never intended for them to be forced to vote for a particular candidate. This ruling, is just another case of the court ignoring the constitution to do what they want. It's also another step back from Democracy. Really, the system should be abolished as it's grossly undemocratic to have non-elected officials have the final say in who the President is.

@GANTZ100pts You say that, but where's your evidence? You anti-tax people are lame, you folks assert things like that, but most of you are living in areas of the state where you're getting more out of the tax coffers than you put in.
1
@GANTZ100pts There were 3 options on the ballot early on and eventually the last vote was surface street versus tunnel. A street would have been absolute madness and people saying otherwise are completely out of their mind. Just look at how large the street we have along the waterfront now, just imagine how much bigger it would have had to be in order to also handle the through traffic trying to bypass downtown completely.

@leviharrison4127 So? Trying to get something thrown out that might not even win is one thing, judges are often times hesitant to intervene on something that may wind up becoming moot. But, the whole thing does have a massive issue in terms of one ultrawealthy individual being behind the initiatives and him not necessarily having the best of intentions. In this case, all of the initiatives on the ballot were unnecessarily confusing and that's been an increasing trend in recent years where it's not at all clear how you need to vote if you have one position or the other.
1
Not really, it's jealousy. You're jealous that there are more people living there who are making more money than you are. Most of the rest of the state suckles off the King County teet whenever taxes are being distributed. There's an amazing lack of any sort of appreciation for what the county does for you.
1
What are you talking about? Nobody was going to be converting old homes over to electric only. The mains are still in the ground and are unlikely to be removed until the number of customers drops below whatever level is needed to justify the infrastructure. As far as the expense, $50k is a lie. It's a few hundred dollars, maybe $5k tops as all of these homes already have the 230v service coming to the home that an electric oven and anything else would use.
1
As in the only people in the state that are actually impacted by this. The folks in Eastern Washington have no need for this as you don't have inversions there and the population is a lot less dense. This was just another situation where jealous folks in rural areas trying to stick it to the urban dwellers that are actually making money.
1
Why? The bulk of the people who voted for this were never going to be impacted by this in the first place.
1
@scifi_shop This is an object lesson in why the US used to have a top tax bracket of over 90%, it discouraged people from accumulating so much money that they couldn't figure out what to do with it all.
