The company is going out of business, one way or another. Either because nobody is willing to buy tickets on a sub they've designed after such a catastrophic failure, because of new regulations or they simply get sued out of existence by the families of the deceased.

Yes, and if I understood correctly, this was the 3rd voyage. That's pretty quick to get to a catastrophic failure.

I wonder if any of the passengers would have gone if it wasn't the CEO piloting the craft.

@RA-el6zj Apparently yes. I would have thought the fact that Submarines have been around for over a century at this point and usually not running at such a depth with extensive maintenance and examination routines would be pretty obvious. Not to mention the various water tight doors that can be sealed if there is a breach in one section.

@kingofwrestling9758 Yes, but there's established designs for subs that can safely reach the wreck. It's just that they cost more money.

@RA-el6zj IKR, I'm not sure how this is really any different from visiting any other wreck, other than that they attempted it in a cut rate sub designed by people who didn't bother to get the designs validated or verified. People are going to be going to prison over this.

@scifi_shop This is an object lesson in why the US used to have a top tax bracket of over 90%, it discouraged people from accumulating so much money that they couldn't figure out what to do with it all.
