Tell that to people living near the Hanford nuclear reservation. Those waste containers are leaking due to them being from the 40s and the government isn't in any hurry to clean it's up. As long as it's store securely, it's relatively safe. It's the cheapness in handling it that cause problems.

@sagichdirdochnicht4653 nuclear is the only method we have to get us over the goal line right now and we should have been building up capacity the last few decades in order to offline as many coal plants as possible. Long term, nuclear may not make sense, but the population is starting to level off and will likely start declining a bit, making it easier to fill the capacity with renewables.

@nata5212 yes, and they also should have been seen coming. Chernobyl and Fukushima wouldn't have happened if not for incompetence.
