I disagree, because this happened so early, it was fewer ballots impacted and there's some time to get them replacement ballots. Had this happened a couple days before the election, that would have been far harder to address.

@justinvaldez4449 So is Oregon. Which makes me wonder what the motive is, because this isn't going to shift the federal elections at all.

Not true, nobody knows because none of the ballots are counted until election day. There is some pre-processing that goes on, so the only thing that anybody does know is if the overall voting activity is up in various places that may or may not ultimately vote to support him.
3
They don't. If you left a ballot in one of those drop boxes, you can request a replacement and presumably, that's held provisionally until the election and only counted if the original doesn't show up. Here in WA there's a ballot tracker that we can use to verify that our ballot is being processed prior to being counted. Normally, within a few days, the status of it would change on the site, so if that had been mine in there, I'd no that it hadn't shown up for the processing.

OR and WA are vote by mail states. The only people that vote in person are the disabled and individuals who need special accommodations to vote. It's definitely preferable as I can sit at home sipping on coffee while I go through the ballot on an item by item basis and do any research that I haven't already done if I need it while voting and there's no pressure to finish in any particular time. If I want to vote over the course of several days, I can, or I can leave a contentious race off until later in case something happens that might impact my decisions.

@stevengarcia877 In WA, you get the choice of using these drop boxes or just dropping the ballots off at the post office. The problem though is that there's been a rash of post office drop boxes being broken into by criminals trying to steal checks.
2
@drewgoin8849 Yes, and in all the years that these have existed, this is the first time I remember hearing anything about it.
2
Nobody votes in person in either WA or OR except for people who need ADA accommodations and the like. The entire county I live in with hundreds of thousands of people only has like a half dozen in person polling places set up for any election. Around here, it's the normal thing to do to vote through the mail and has been for quite a few years. Perhaps the rest of the country should try to catch up. It's so nice to be able to sit at home sipping on my coffee while I read up on the various issues as I make my final decision about which candidates and causes to vote for.
2
God no. We already have too many people who feel the need to vote on everything on their ballot, even things that they don't understand. If people don't understand, they should just not vote on that item. I know I've done that in the past. Voting access should be made as convenient as possible, but people shouldn't be pressured into voting if they don't care enough to have an informed opinion on the issues.

These were destroyed in primarily liberal areas, what makes you think that the left is burning their own ballots when it's the right that keeps going on with their fake claims of elections fraud?
1
It's not normally a problem. And from past experience, as you get closer to election day, there are people hanging around those ballot drop boxes constantly. This just suggests that it might be time to add a web came to the physical drop box locations in addition to the ones we have that are covering the facilities where the ballots are being handled.
1
I don't think they know how many were in there. Also, I think that they come by and collect the ballots regularly this time of the year so they can start the process of verifying the signatures and the like before election night. That's How they can have an entire hopper of ballots ready to count the moment that the polls close.
1
They're looking for the culprits, there's probably going to be more police drive bys of the boxes and probably volunteers. As for those impacted, they can request a replacement if they dropped theirs in that box and the new copy won't be counted unless the other one isn't found. That is normal, except in this case they won't be filing any sort of voter fraud charges over doing so as long as there's some sort of legitimate basis for thinking that they used that ballot box. So, people from across the state had better be able to prove they were in that area that time if they want a replacement due to the fire.
1
Why do you assume that it was a Democrat?
1
The ballots will be set off to the side until election day and processed like any other provisional ballot.
1
Because this hasn't been a problem, and it still isn't. These voters have the opportunity to request a replacement ballot and there's still a week to go until the actual election.
1
we'll see what this turns up, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were anarchists from Eugene. This is exactly the sort of thing that they've done over the years. Although, I'm sure there are plenty of other options.
1
You can't in WA or OR, there aren't any polling places to go to that could handle the number of voters that participate in the elections. WA has voted by mail exclusively for nearly 15 years and Oregon has been for decades. There are a few polling places for the disabled and people who need accommodations, but not anywhere near enough to cover the millions of people that need to vote.
1
Because these are 3 drop boxes out of however many of hundreds there are throughout these states. It hasn't been a problem before, and it still isn't. The people who voted there can request a new ballot and they'll only count the new one if the old one doesn't show up.
1
And yet, in the many years these have existed, this is the first time I've heard of it being a problem. Perhaps if we didn't have a convicted felon telling people that there's a bunch of elections and voter fraud that it wouldn't happen. Trump isn't even eligible to hold the office due to the 14th amendment.
1
WA and OR don't even have the infrastructure to vote in person these days as both states have been exclusively vote by mail for many years. They've collectively got enough kit to vote in person mostly just for individuals that need accommodations.
1
What law specifies that?
