While you're right about sugar being sugar, it is worth remembering that it's much harder to eat excessive amount of sugar when it's coming from fruit. Most fruits have so much water and fiber that it's difficult to eat that much sugar without becoming full. The other reason to target the added sugar is that it tends to be more prevalent in foods without ingredients that we ought to be avoiding, especially highly processed junk foods.

@HiloBoiz808 That's not accurate information, you would have to be eating far more fruits than people typically would before that's an issue. Yes, they are sweater, but most fruits have enough water and fiber to make it a non-issue in the quantities that people normally eat. Plus, there are a bunch of vitamins and minerals in fruits, it's hardly in the same category as candy the way that you're implying.

No, the way that to happen would be if the body decided that it didn't need any of the protein to generate and replace proteins in the body. And then for the body to process it perfectly and completely into glucose. The result is that it's pretty much impossible for that scenario to happen, as you'll pretty much always have a portion of the protein being used as protein. This is part of why you wouldn't typically restrict protein that much, there are other issues with excessive protein consumption, but not blood glucose.

@drekberg Having almost died due to water intoxication, it's refreshing that you acknowledge that sodium isn't usually a problem for people. That is, unless there's something else that's going on. Despite what many doctors would have us believe, getting dangerously low levels of sodium isn't that hard to do. I was able to do it by just avoiding the worst offenders, sweating a bunch out and drinking too much water. Which is a lot easier for people to do than one would expect based on the hatred of salt. I had similar problems years earlier when my doctor prescribed a blood pressure medication without bothering to check my sodium levels. I flat out stopped taking it the moment I was starting having memory problems and confusion. I'd guess that's because it dropped my sodium levels far more than was safe.
