@benfelps More than that, it's that everybody is trying to make money without providing the service that's being promised. The Hong Kong subway system was dug and built by the government, but it's privately run with steep fines if trains are delayed. The times that I took the trains around town, I always got where I wanted to go when I expected to get there with no drama or fuss. I just had to figure out where I needed to go and it was a breeze. There's no reason why that couldn't be done with most transit systems in the US other than the hopeless corruption due to people continuing to elect anti-government politicians that are also pro-corporate.

@rabbit251 I'm not really sure why you'd need or want that. The local rail and bus service allows me to use an NFC card or buy tickets with cash or card. I can even use my phone to buy a ticket as well. (Admittedly, I haven't tried that last one and the reviews indicate some bugs) And, I'm sure before too long that the NFC feature on phones will become an option as well. There's already enough spying on private citizens going on with the current system. Allowing the transit agencies to also have access to what you're doing after you get off the bus/train isn't something that I personally consider to be desirable.
