@lovewillwinnn And that right there is why we have most of our regulations. Enough companies take that attitude that it is a big problem for everybody else.

@cdavid8139 Have you seen some of these bridges? Under normal conditions they just work, but some of these bridges that are still in use are a century old and older.

@kentuckyrailfan1 That explains the not fixed and is probably correct. It doesn't explain the not replaced and not properly monitored. I'm sure there are temporary measures that could have been put into place to shore it up so this didn't happen while they dealt with the problem of replacing it.

That's definitely going to be high on the list of possibilities. But, the bridge was presumably OK previously, so there's probably something else that was the final straw.

It's near Corvallis according to the title and the summary. As far as I can tell, there's only one Corvallis in the US, that's in Oregon.
