Keep in mind that often times the parts are interchangeable between closely related model years. That doesn't lead to it being legally required, but if a part was used through an entire model generation, and the warranty period, it would mean that the part will probably be available 7-10ish years later as a consequence of that. But, warehouse space is limited and the law doesn't require it.
