@dondakota920 The seller received stolen property and appears to have not done an adequate job of verifying that the vehicle was being lawfully sold. The thief and accomplices should be prosecuted as well, assuming they can be located, but the dealership does appear to have fenced stolen property.

The money is owed to the lender as they just loaned the money, they didn't have anything to do with the actual car being purchased. The party that screwed up is the dealer and that's ultimately why the lawyer is involved as the money needs to be paid back by the dealer, but there's then the issue of the customer not getting a vehicle and the interest payments and potentially any changes in the market since then if they adversely impact the buyer.
