In all fairness, it's not the USPS' fault that congress deliberately sabotaged them. They're required by law to deliver all first class mail for the same price anywhere in the country, which was always the case. But, there are a bunch of regulations with respect to having to fully fund all future retirement obligations and the like which normal companies don't have to do. The result is that they've had to cut costs by a lot and there's only so much cutting you can do without it negatively impacting service.
