This competition didn't require an agreement to auction the animals being entered off. It was optional.

@CigarMick It's already been stated that that wasn't the case for that competition and at any rate, the buyer was willing to give the goat back. Presumably in exchange for a refund.

Pretty much all the animals were up for sale. 4-H is a farmer/rancher focused institution.

The girl presumably lives on a farm, she is well aware of what happens to animals around there. My Dad had a "pet" cow that wound up being eaten later on.

@BDaltonYoung Zoos typically have special permits to cover the possession of animals that are often not legal to own.

What lawsuit? They can file one, they won't win because the way to tell if an animal has rabies is euthanasia and dissection. The animals weren't legal to posses apart from specially licensed experts.

@sandrajones2262 That's a different department that handles animals versus human trafficking.

@karlwolfenstein4496 It's probably not taxable in full, part of it might be, but it's a lawsuit covering property damage, so some portion of it won't be taxable.
1
@feral_housecat What justice? It was an illegally possessed squirrel. The options for handling it once it came to the attention of the authorities were pretty limited.
1
Probably due to immunity rules that can't ever be challenged in a systematic fashion.
1
That's not at all what happened. They didn't legally have the squirrel with the appropriate permits. Perhaps they shouldn't have advertising that they were breaking the law?
1
What illegal seizure? The squirrel wasn't legal to have.
1
@timdowney6721 The judge can find them in contempt of court that doesn't require DA cooperation.
1
Why? That one is cut and dry. Illegally possessed animals that can carry rabies were seized and euthanized prior to testing.
1
That was legal. Perhaps other people that have illegal animals they won't make it public.

@Ladywizard If the squirrel is suspected of rabies, the raccoon could as well. Seizing one of them and waiting on results means that the other one is potentially infected.
