Sure, you might pay $5 forsomething and sell it for $10, but that doesn't mean that the $5 is profit. That $5 has to pay for salaries, rent, insurance and the various other costs of doing business. A gift card is definitely less valuable than the same amount of cash is, but the difference is significantly less than that.
