That's a common practice. They claim to do it because larger checks tend to be things like rent. But, coincidentally, it also means that they get to rack up the most possible overdrafts doing it in that order.

@jogzyg2036 In all fairness, it's more or less impossible to keep to all the teachings as a bunch of them contradict each other. You can reduce that a lot by largely ignoring the old testament, but honestly, what's the point of even including that if it's not to be used? Personally, I only start caring when they start using that as the basis to mess with other people.

@joshuahudson2170 Honestly, when it comes to gambling, as long as you know your limit and play responsibly, there's not much wrong with gambling. You're probably going to lose most, or all, of the money you allow yourself to gamble. Yes, there are exceptions that are really good at cards, but for the most part, it's rigged against individual gamblers.

I think if people realized how ancient the computers are that are used to process checks, they'd be appalled. About 10 years ago, I was working in security in a building with computers that were used to process checks. The computers themselves had literal reel to real computers handling a bunch of the work. It seemed to work, but it's scary that well into the 21st century that the computers doing such important work were already 40 years old, if not older.
