It's worth noting that if you put the meat down your pants, the store can't sell it to somebody else if they do catch you and put it back. Just yesterday, I had to put back a random doughnut that somebody didn't want. Perfectly legal for the customer to change their mind, but it had to be thrown out so the store was out the money. It was perfectly legal so the customer wasn't arrested or anything like that, but the store was out the money for the doughnut. There's a ton of groceries that can't be sold because the A-holes took the item within the store and put the item in the wrong area. Some of them were lazy, some of them are probably vandals and some of them are doing it because they were going to steal it, but then got cold feet.
