If you actually want to make money on machines, you go to video poker for one of the machines near the front and look at the payout schedule. Sometimes it will be over 100% with perfect play as a way of bringing in suckers. It's completely legitimate and casinos use those machines to give off the impression that people can win.

@socasack I don't share that view. It told her she won after it took her money. I don't care what the logs said, people don't get to examine the logs and nobody checks to see that losses are actually losses. Barring a situation where the amount that it said she won was not on the list of possible prizes, she should get the money. This is an entire industry that's built on quasi fraudulent activities. They can afford to pay for payouts that aren't clearly malfunctions to the people gaming with the machines.

Precisely, if you don't need the money, you're better off with computerized versions that take tokens and pay back tokens. You won't strike it rich with real money, but you won't be out real money either.

@suraceryan It's possible that something happened to glitch the system, although I'd be very suspicious of convenient cooincidences.

@THEEFunkySoulBrotha I rarely gamble, but blackjack would be one that you can reliably make a profit at with perfect play, similarly good poker players can make money at it. Although, the easiest money is generally sports betting. If you look at the odds often times the bookies give slightly better than appropriate odds for unpopular teams and if you bet for all the unpopular teams you'll come out ahead. But, you do have to do the work of verifying that's the case on that particular day with that particular bookie. They often do it as a form of insurance and as long as there aren't enough people doing it, there's no problem for them.

@brianrad68 I'm curious how they know in some cases. A cosmic ray can potentially flip a bit that could lead to a different than intended out come. It's unlikely to be a common thing, but if that did happen, you probably wouldn't be able to tell that it wasn't the correct result for that spin.

@Mike__B I would assume so. If they just wanted to get her off the premises without making a scene, they'd probably have comped or or something along those lines. Then again, this is Jersey, so who knows.

@smilebehappy6102 It's worth noting that in that case, nobody is the wiser because nobody examines those logs. People lose more often than they win, so nobody is going through those logs to try to find false losses.

@gaiustacitus4242 The games are generally rigged when working as intended. The issue is under what circumstances it's permissible to say that a player won and then claim that it was a malfunction. Personally, I think that the only situation where that should be accepted is if the machine wasn't supposed to register a win and the amount wasn't a possible prize amount. In all other cases, they should just pay the money and if it was broken, fix the machine.
