I don't agree. If they really were innocent, or thought they were, and they've got the bucks and that's where a significant portion of their social circle is, then it's not really that ridiculous. These are probably people they enjoy socializing with, just not enough to travel to see.

Possibly, although people do get kicked out of clubs over stupid things. And HOAs do punish the hell out of people over minor infractions. It's entirely within the realm of possibility that they are right, but couldn't prove it in court. But, that being said, I wasn't there, so who knows.

Not really any more than any other private club. I wasn't there for any of this, so it's entirely possible that it really was a medical condition, but from the sound of it, that wasn't sufficient to win the case.

Good, folks like you and me aren't really the target audience for the club anyways. If everybody wanted in, the rates would have be be far, far higher. A large part of why the dues are what they are is so that not everybody that wants in can join.

It's not your money and as long as we have a system that allows people to accumulate that much money while other serious issues go unaddressed you're going to have people spending it like this.

@danburch9989 They still had the right to file the suit. We don't know that the lawyer didn't advise them that it was a longshot. Jury trials in particular can be incredibly unpredictable. It's not the lawyers duty to say to no to cases unless they really don't have any sort of case to file and given how far it got into the progress, there was something there, even if it wasn't sufficient to win the case.

It's a club that they charged hundreds of thousands of dollars to join and tens of thousands of dollars a year for membership on top of whatever food you eat. That does come with some restrictions in terms of when they are allowed to kick people out. Apparently, in this case, that didn't matter, but it can.
