@Marklin15 The point of it was presumably to make the offender understand the lives of some of the people that were impacted. That being said, there are a lot of other conditions that can lead to somebody legitimately using those spaces, the wheelchair is just the easiest one to temporarily impose on somebody.

@jasonpatterson8091 That makes more sense, making him give up holidays as a reduction does make some sense as those days are likely to be more punishing than regular days. 18 total days would have been ridiculous even by normal standards.

@Sonny_McMacsson It's worth noting that cruel and unusual will generally have both components, that doesn't guarantee that both components are what leads to something being unconstitutional. For example, drawing and quartering isn't something that would likely ever have been accepted as not violating the rules against being cruel and unusual. Part of which is because it was never usual in the US, and part of it being because it was explicitly intended to be torture. Over time, things that were considered to not be cruel and were definitely usual punishments have been ruled to be cruel and unusual. For example, executing individuals with intellectual disabilities and some of the chemical methods for execution. They were the way it was done in every state that used it for capital punishment, but it was cruel, even though it was a usual punishment.
