@jhonspeedy Yep, my brother lives in a small town. There's never more than one cop out on patrol, so you know that if you see that car, you can probably get away with speeding as much as you like, as there's only one patrol car in the entire town. Honestly, I don't entirely understand why they bother having their own police at that point, usually such small towns just get protection from the Sheriff's department.

Some modern smoke detectors have a secondary sensor that picks up on chemicals in the air that come from something that's just smouldering, but not necessarily actively burning. In this case, some fires can move surprisingly quickly, so it seems rather foolish to not have the detectors in there in case something does start burning in a room that none of the firefighters are in. Also, smoke detectors aren't necessarily that expensive, in many areas the fire department will give you a free smoke detector and if you need them to, they'll even install it, just so that it's in the building if it ever does catch fire so that they don't have to sift through the ashes for human remains.
