@BuzzLOLOL Not only are they just credit for future purchases, but the purchase has to be done in the store itself, not online.

@johnsee7269 Those are going to happen, if you're lucky, you've got a public utility that's at least subject to oversight and not allowed to rake in outrageous profits.

@jason3298 The entire program is more or less a scam. I received one of them once, only to learn that it's completely useless to me as I live out of state and the "rebates" aren't even rebates, they're store credit on future purchases in a rather tight timeframe. So, no saving them up in case I do wind up near one of their locations, even though they were happy to advertise the "rebate" on their website.

I won't be shopping at menards again after I got scammed with their "rebates" that are only good for future purchases at one of their physical locations. I bought something through their web site and got a rebate, but the rebate is completely worthless to me as I don't live anywhere near one of their locations and it was not adequately posted that the rebates aren't real rebates, they're store credit if you go into one of their stores. There isn't a single Menards within quite a few hundred miles of me, I think the closest is like in Wyoming.

@xpusostomos It's not though. This isn't cash or bearer bonds, these are rebates, and there's no reason why the rebate policy needs to be so lax that the rebates can be stolen, and then used to buy more merchandise. Menards has no real incentive to fix the problem as the rebates can only be used in person at one of their locations, as in they're not out any money, it's the customers that are.

@TimeToCheckReality For one thing, they call them rebates, these aren't rebates, these are just store credit and pretty much useless if you don't live near one of their locations.

Menards' rebates are pretty much a scam. I ordered something from them online, which came with a rebate. The problem is that it's only good if you go to an actual location, something that's not properly disclosed up front, and it expires in only a few months. Meaning that I bought something from them on the understanding that it would be less expensive, then I find out that the rebate itself is completely worthless as I can't get it in cash and I can't even use it because it's only good if I travel to one of their stores. (The nearest one is over a thousand miles away from me) I'll never be buying from them again.

It's because they don't want you to use it. The rebate program is more or less a scam. It's a rebate off a future purchase and can only be used in one of their stores, despite the rebates also being issued for online purchases and sent to addresses that are nowhere near a store.

@VideoArchiveGuy Unlike Kohl's Cash, Menards rebates can only be used in person, making it substantially worse than what other companies do. I made the mistake of buying something from them, partially due to the "rebate" only to learn later that it's not a real rebate, it can only be used on future purchases and only in person. The closest location to me is in Wyoming, which is a ridiculous distance to go in order to make use of one of their "rebates."

The purpose of a rebate is typically for manufacturers to change the price of goods that they've already sold and ensure that the customer receives the money that they should. A lot of them don't get returned, which is probably also good for the manufacturer. That being said, these days, the electronic rebates are probably the best as you get your rebate pretty much immediately, and they know that they can stop accounting for that product being returned to them.

@Rickmakes They do it because they know a substantial portion can't ever be redeemed due to the tight time frame to use it and the need to go to one of their locations to use it, even if the "rebate" is for an online purchase.
