  1. Just compensation is often a lot less than people expect. It's more or less the value after the government says that you can't use it for anything. Or, they'll condemn just a portion of the property and pay for that, leaving the rest of it unusable. That happened to my dad, he was trying to build on a piece of land that he bought, and the city condemned the only portion of the property that could be built on, and only paid for that portion.
