@andyny29 Possibly, it also could mean that the labels weren't clear. But, having made that mistake at that station once, I'd expect him to be extremely careful about that particular station in the future.

The tanks are underground because it's generally safer, and the tanks tend to be rather big. A gas tank large enough to hold 50 000L or fuel is going to be pretty big, and you'd need one for each type of fuel that you're selling, as they can't be mixed together. The different grades of gas could theoretically be put in the same tank, but you'd only be able to sell it at the price of the cheapest grade, it wouldn't do anything bad to the engines other than running a bit less than efficiently until it burns through. Older tanks had issues with leaking, newer ones have a lot of really impressive engineering to track how much fuel goes in and how much is going out, and if there's a significant discrepancy the station knows that they need to have a check done to make sure it's not leaking. We used to have a lot of independent gas stations when I was a kid, but virtually all of them went under due to regulatory changes that required not just a replacement of the tanks, but also an expensive insurance policy to cover mishaps.

I work at a grocery store and one of the local health department inspectors will go on about how and why Dawn is the best for washing dishes. Part of it has to do with the enzymes that are included rather than just the detergents. It's a bit of a pain, but ultimately good when people in those kinds of jobs have a passion for it.

I was wondering about that, the customer facing fuel pumps are presumably labeled in an equivalent way to the ways they are in the US. I wasn't sure if the fuel points for delivery were similarly color coded, or were just labeled. But, either way, I'd imagine the driver is going to be out of a job. As far as the War in Ukraine, that is more complicated. Apart from Hawaii, most of the US doesn't use much Russian fuel. There is a bit of increased cost due to more competition from foreign companies, but most of the increase is the result of American oil being shipped overseas for a larger profit and the Biden administration refusing to do anything to regulate the activity.
