Not surprising, in those days, I remember my dad taking his knife out at airport security, putting it into the bowl and being given it back after he passed through the metal detectors.

Apart from it being under the seat, I don't see how it would be that much different from a tire iron or lug wrench other than being explicitly a weapon.

For whatever reason, the wacko 2nd amendment supporters don't consider those to be arms. But, I guess neither are mortars, howitzers, and rockets, as those would clearly be over the line.

They're more practical as a weapon than hatchets and knives, due to the increased number of cutting edges making the interval shorter. An axe or a knife needs to have a target at a relatively fixed distance based on the number of times it takes the weapon to spin. Although, there are some styles of knife throwing that don't spin the knife, but in general, if the target isn't the right distance, then you might as well be throwing a gun at them like in those old timey Superman movies.

Possession laws are popular with the cops because they don't have to do any work, and don't have to worry about how the item came into the possession of the defendant, whether it was intentional or they're being framed isn't relevant. Possession without some other crime related to the item shouldn't be legal. Logically, I think most people would agree that it does matter how it came into their hands. If somebody legit slipped an item into their bag and they've got no knowledge of it, that's going to be different from somebody that's intent on using it for criminal activities.

I"m not sure why Nunchucks would be illegal, they're probably less viable as a weapon than a Millwall brick and any number of other improvised weapons. What's next are we going to be forced to choose between a couple rolls of quarters and our socks? Good luck doing laundry at a laundromat like that.

I'd wager that it probably is racism, the same reason why nunchucks would be illegal. They're not a practical weapon for most people, and there are definitely better options for those that are willing to learn how to use them effectively.
