@TechnicallyaNomad Apparently that guys favorite state is inebriation.

That's different, if you had asked for the help after being caught engaging in some misconduct on the job, they might not have had to help. They can't fire you for being disabled, but they can fire you for things you do.

@jimsackmanbusinesscoaching1344 The joke there is that most rehab programs are more about bilking insurance than about helping people with drug dependency or addiction.

@mage1439 Something like that might not be sufficient, if somebody quits just to get around the regulation, the courts might not be amused by the maneuver.

@quademasters249 The issue here is that alcoholism is a disability, which means that you could come to the same stupid conclusion here where being sued for being drunk on the job is suing somebody for being disabled. There are a bunch of issues with that line of reasoning, but it can be arrived at logically if you're not thinking about what it all means.

@ianbelletti6241 Why would they? Don't their insurance rates increase when there are successful claims filed? It's part of why a former employer had free breakfasts when we went a certain number of days without injuries and why my current employer sometimes hands out gift cards when nobody in the department gets hurt. It's not being done purely out of concern for our safety, the rewards are cheaper than having to pay the increased premiums when people get hurt.

It's also worth noting that most clinics that deal with addiction have abysmal success rates.
