@lilium-orchid They could have, the issue is that the building was designed as 1/4 of it, so unless somebody was really thinking ahead, they wouldn't have known there was a problem as they wouldn't have seen the plans altogether.

@GoMrTom Not necessarily, if all 4 sides were identical, they may not have bothered to print the entire plan on one sheet. This was during the '60s and the ability to zoom in and out was limited to whatever size paper you had available and had to be able to fit on the drafting table. It's completely plausible that there was only one L shaped building ever actually drawn and that nobody say more than that until well into the project. At that point, aerial imaging was quite a bit less common than it is now.

@SensitivityGames In Europe and the US, that's the main meaning that's relevant. Most simple shapes like that have established meanings from some point in history, most of which are completely irrelevant in modern times.

@threedragonstalk2123 If it was built by German POWs, that would raise some pretty big questions given that this was built decades later with the US in a completely different military conflict.

@fixedgearfever69 Plenty of groups did, it's a simple shape. The symbol itself was borrowed from Asia because it had helped with the mythology that the Nazis were trying to build.
