@flipflopski2951 The issue is that these drones don't need to be as large as what they're presumably using that technology for and the Russian military is rather behind in many ways in terms of technology and R&D. Detecting things right at the water line is a lot more complicated than it might seem, especially if they're shaped to deflect the sonar or radar.

Drones in general work rather well, especially since it's acceptable for them to be destroyed, the actual trained personnel are nowhere near the drone when it is destroyed and they can be significantly smaller and more maneuverable than ones that involve people.

@supa3ek Invading from ships has been an issue for basically as long as armies and ships have existed. The Roman's early attempts to capture land in Great Britain failed in part due to sea sickness coming across the channel. During WWII, they got extremely luck for D-Day as they'd been able to bomb a bunch of the defenses before invading and were able to bluff Hitler into repositioning a lot of the defenses to a different part of the continent. Even with that, it was still a bloody mess.

@psychohist Yes, but presumably, they knew about the USS Cole attack, I mean even the civilian population in the US knew about that pretty much immediately.
