Mount Rushmore was itself a deliberate act of cultural vandalism as the Lakota people already had identified naturally occurring faces on the mountain. Unfortunately, it's not a simple choice as removing the faces doesn't put the previous ones back and unlike most of the other statues that people have been discussing, you can't simply move the monument indoors and provide context for it either. In the case of this statue, it's at least possible to move it inside so that people can at least continue to view the work.
