That depends where you're going in the US. The East Coast tends to care far more about that than other areas of the country. Out west, I can't recall the last person that asked me that other than dates and potential employers. We just don't have that level of class division out here. We do have class division, but it's got far fewer levels and it's still possible to manage your way from the bottom to near the top in a generation. Admittedly, that's getting far harder and does depend upon being able to gain access to the knowledge of how to operate with higher class individuals.

@jessicaandersson4313 That's not relevant, the US is a big place and suggesting that the overall picture is everywhere is dishonest. Yes, there are a ton of issues, but tere also a bunch of people shooting themselves in the foot as well.
