Probably right after they figure out that they need to actually earn votes. There's a huge number of voters out there that are to the left that nobody is courting. There's a huge share of nonvoters that could vote if they were given a reason to that they aren't courting. They only seem interested in rightwing voters even though the right wing is retreating to the right leaving fewer and fewer people actually being sought after for our votes.

Harris was put on the ticket as a middle finger to the progressive wing. They could have gotten a much bigger boost by choosing somebody else and then just providing a detailed plan to help them. Just legalizing or decriminalizing pot would probably have had a bigger impact as putting people in color for minor crimes is a huge issue.
