$10k would wipe out my student loan completely. Most of the money I have is tied up in stocks and bonds and as such, will likely increase to account for any inflation that results from this. That being said, forgiving student loans at this point is one of the dumbest ideas out there. Giving everybody stimulus payments to help them deal with their current circumstances would allow those with debts of any sort to keep paying and those without to save/spend it as they see fit. Wiping out student debts after they've been incurred and people have made their decisions just rewards irresponsible people. I had to work my but off to keep from racking up massive debt from college, why should those morons going to Harvard and the like get their money back? It's one thing to decide that going forward we're not going to let people go into debt for college, that would suck for those that are already done, but at least it wouldn't reward irresponsibility like waiving certain debt does. Waiving student loans for veterans was a pretty big FU as well, they've had the GI bill paying for college for many decades now, if they couldn't finish their degree with that funding, why should we have to bail them out beyond that?

It doesn't to any appreciable degree. Perhaps the ivy league schools do, but nobody is as narcissistic as those rural voters that are far more concerned with preventing other people from having opportunity than even their own self-interest. Election after election they vote for candidates that are more about owning the libs than pushing initiatives that would benefit them. Sure, the coastal elites are narcissistic monsters, but they do usually believe that what they're doing will benefit everybody eventually. The same can not be said for those leeches in red districts that use their disproportionate sway on electoral politics to screw other people over.

It's not just the people that didn't go to college and earn a degree, some of us made our decisions about which schools to attend and took longer to graduate because we didn't want to be saddled with huge student loans. This is just like when they bailed out all those irresponsible home buyers that couldn't afford their loans. Those that behaved responsibly got screwed and those that didn't were rewarded for their irresponsibility. The fact that we're in the middle of a pandemic makes is sort of OKish, but even there it would make far more sense to just give folks UBI which they could use to pay their student loans, or any other type of loan, as appropriate. It's also worth noting that it's mostly just the middle class that winds up with student loans, the rich have the money to pay outright and the poor often get financial aid to cover the bulk of it. The middle class often doesn't have the money to do that, so they get the loans.

@C.Noble13 Nazis are most certainly not left wing. I'm not sure where you got that idea from.
