She's not wrong about getting people back to work. She's just wrong about how to go about it. Why is it that the people working get nothing? The unemployed make more than I do.

@Mike77787 Why not? Billionaires do it everyday and are venerated for it.

@AaronSaltzer The solution was for the government to step in and cover most of the payroll costs to make up for the uncertainty. Most of those folks ultimately got unemployment anyways, but with the payroll being covered by the government the businesses could have opened up again as soon as conditions allowed for it. But, as it stands people are willing to go back to a dangerous job that barely pays any better than unemployment. That assumes it does pay better, my job does not pay better than unemployment.

The simple solution would have been to give everybody that $300 a week whether they worked or not and then taxed it back from those too wealthy to need it. They didn't want to do that because that wouldn't transfer enough wealth to the greedy. They want people to be foreclosed upon and evicted so that the bankers can take the property back and resell it, or keep it for renting to others in the future.

The correct answer was to provide hazard pay for those that were working in jobs that took them outside of the home. Perhaps decreasing as things got closer to normal. The only reason that I got hazard pay is that the local municipality made the grocery store pay it. But, many others aren't getting it. I've had my hours cut to the point where I'm making less than the folks on unemployment are and that's even with the $4 an hour hazard pay. If I had the choice, I'd be very tempted to go on unemployment, but I won't qualify for it. The only reason that I'm making something at all comparable to unemployment is that I'm working 2 jobs and getting hazard pay at one of them. And I'm still not making as much as I would on unemployment, that's f-ed up.

@harryballsak1123 Obviously not, they're just pawns. They could have given everybody that needed to work, the same bonus and been done with it. The people working would have hazard pay and the unemployed would have help. Instead we couldn't have hard pay because we needed to help the unemployed when they could have just given the money to everybody.

That's the thing. The grocery store I work for has been hiring through the pandemic. But, it doesn't pay as well as unemployment does and health insurance when you're unemployed here is completely free, whereas the company plan has deductables and copays to worry about. (It's not a bad plan by any stretch of the imagination, just not as affordable as medicaid) I'm lucky, that I'm renting from a relative, otherwise I'm not sure how I would make ends meet.
