IKR, I've been trying to get my wife to file for weeks and she refuses to do so. We're fortunate in that I have a job working at a grocery store, but the $600 a week bonus that you get for being on unemployment is roughly 7/8 of what I'm making by risking my health going out in public and ensuring that people have access to food. It's utter BS that the Dems are doing far less to help us than our own employers are. My employer gave us a $2 an hour raise that they just extended a while back and my employer is requiring that we wear company provided surgical masks. And my employer is temperature checking every employee before start of shift and paying for the rest of our day if our temperature is too high. The Democrats and Republicans have done dicky mcgeezacks to help us out. But, there's tons of money for the unemployed and large businesses, just none for smaller businesses and the people actually working the front lines trying to keep people from starving to death. I do feel fortunate, but it's incredibly f-ed up that nobody is talking about doing anything substantive to help us out and provide us with compensation for shouldering the additional risk and responsibility associated with keeping the country from starving.

Oh yeah, if they don't do something and quick, we're likely to start seeing rioting, especially if more food production facilities have to shut down due to an outbreak. I definitely believe that there is truth to the notion that any society is 4 missed meals away from revolution. And in this case where the government is directly responsible for failing to act, it may even be fewer.

Indeed, when the corporations that own most of the grocery stores are doing more for the employees than the government that's supposed to represent us is, something is seriously messed up. They do the bare minimum possible to help anybody, then go on a long vacation while millions of Americans are without work and those of us that are fortunate enough to still be working, may well be still out in public helping people receive their essential services and food, but the government won't do anything to help us, even though in many cases, that extra $600 a week that comes with unemployment may be more than what we're being paid for actually working an essential job.

Ve Rams The root of the problem is that we have private funding of elections. Other things like partisan districting, lack of top 2 primary systems and that we aren't all voting via mail are also an issue.

@MissionaryInMexico I feel very fortunate, it's partially that the chain is a bit better and a lot to do with the store management knowing how to effectively manage. I can't indicate which chain due to the media policy, but we're big in western Washington. As I've said, the politicians should be embarrassed as even what the store is doing is arguably inadequate, but more than what the politicians are doing.

Tulio Porrata The problem is that those loans are for small businesses. The large businesses got their, undeserved money, in other provisions, this is for small businesses. Plus, in a lot of cases, these large corporations wouldn't be hurting for money if they'd handled their money more responsibly. Boeing, as an example, took their profits as well as taxpayer dollars and used them to buy back their own stocks. Apple, saved huge sums of money and doesn't need help right now. They had literally hundreds of billions of dollars in the bank because they were actually saving for opportunites in the future.
