It appears to be the same people, so just the fact that this crime spree crossed state lines alone is going to make it a federal offense. And it's definitely a felony.

It should also be easy to figure out if they got your ballot. I put mine in a different drop box yesterday and when I checked the status, it had already been accepted for counting.

@joancarlson8704 I'm positive that it is. Screwing with elections is a serious issue, unless you're FBI and are screwing over the liberals.

@transitionaloldlady6348 Yes, although the voters don't have access to that, we can look it up on the county elections website though.

@cynthiaharrison4610 Yep, the one issue with it though is that it doesn't necessarily have a way of verifying that the votes were correctly tabulated. Not that it's likely to be much of an issue here, as we use optical scan technology that retains the paper ballot until whatever checks need to be made and the process is over.

WA doesn't have that, but there is online tracking available, just go to the appropriate county elections site and input the appropriate details to get your status. I dropped mine off yesterday and it's already been processed.

I'm positive that's going to happen, this is a federal offense and with all the attention on elections security in recent years, the perp is probably going to get the book thrown at them for everything possible.

@schoolingdiana9086 That's shocking. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if the FBI put the perp up to it so they'd have somebody to bust.

@stevenandcarminabeedle9089 There's a certain degree of irony that a good chunk of those folks probably objected to it when it was the Black Panthers monitoring those locations to ensure that klansmen weren't preventing Black folks from voting.

@theblanklogo I'm not sure about OR, but WA there's a way of checking the status of your ballot, I put mine in a box yesterday and when I just checked, I could already see that it had been received and accepted for counting. The county elections office should have appropriate information on how to do that. I just had to put my name, address and some other information in to find out that they had my ballot and it was ready to be counted.

It hasn't been that long, it's been like that for roughly 15 years, but for many years before that we had an incredibly permissive absentee voter program where they didn't actually seem to care if you were actually going to be away or not, so long as you didn't also vote in person.

There will be, and I really don't believe for one second that Trump would pardon the perpetrator if he's elected. There's a ton of people that were more helpful to him that he didn't pardon while in office. He could even have pardoned some of the January 6th folks that had been arrested, but chose not to.

@PeleLua1 In practice, it probably wouldn't happen. During the day leading up to the "polls" closing there's a ton of people milling around the drop boxes. So, it would have to be the evening before. I could be wrong, but I think that they tend to do more pickups in the last couple days just so that they have as little to do the day of the election as possible. So, as long as you don't want to drop the ballot off at night the day before the election, you're probably fine.

In WA, there's no particular need for it to be provisional. If the ballot was put in there the day that the fire was set and it hasn't been received, it was destroyed. One of the nice things about WA is that there's a pretty good system for tracking ballots so that you don't need them to reach out to you if there's a problem, you can look yourself. I'm sure though that they'll keep them set aside until they've gone through the ballots and count the ones replacements where there wasn't another ballot cast.

That's why I voted Green Party in the Presidential race, neither major party cares about democracy.
