@ I thought GITMO under GWB was an affront to American Democracy, I can only imagine how much worse it's going to be with a President that's now completely untethered by the normal restrictions to prevent this sort of abusive behavior.

Theoretically, that's what the national guard is really for. It's a paramilitary group of US citizens that the 2nd amendment was created to ensure would exist if it got to this point. It's why the language of the 2nd amendment is in the plural rather than singular. The US National guard is to protect the country in case of a coup or in case where a coup is required because the elected government has completely run amok and we're looking at a dictator in control. It's why they get a bunch of gear that the military gets and civilians do not.

@michaelburk9171 I for one have very little faith that this is going to change their minds about their recent rulings. They were warned at the time of the arguments and by some of the dissenting justices that this could happen, and the majority still voted to give him this power without even permitting courts to consider whether it was an official act or not.

Don't blame the voters SCOTUS could have allowed the states to refuse to put Trump on the ballot due to him trying to overthrow the government after he lost in 2020. Trump shouldn't have even been on the ballot for people to vote for due to his unsuccessful insurrection.
