A lot of that has to do with changes to the regulations made in the '80s where media was allowed to conglomerate and apparently foreign nationals were allowed to own media outlets. When most cities had at least 2 papers, it made it a lot harder for a handful of people to coordinate what coverage they want. Even now, the best coverage is often times the local coverage as there's so many TV and radio stations out there that it's a lot harder to cover things up, especially since they have to get buy in from their audience that's far more likely to be able to verify things. I haven't personally ever traveled all the way to the other coast to verify a story, but I can get a sense of the likelihood of something being accurate locally without doing any real work.

I was thinking that good start would be to commit to allowing the voters to choose the nominee. It's hard for a candidate to get buy in from the voters if the candidate is being forced on voters, especially if there's a more popular option and the arguments are purely about electability.

He says a lot of good things here, but they need to kick to the curb the GOP politicians that have been allowed to run as Democrats and they need to be a lot more forceful about fighting back against the horrible stuff that the GOP does. For example, they allowed Sinema and Manchin in the Senate to avoid any real consequences for far too long, and they should have been primaried even if it meant that in the short term the party loses the seat to the GOP. There's not much point in retaining seats where the politician holding it reliably votes the wrong way on key issues.
